Andrew Butterworth – Inspection

Andrew works on inspection here at Erlson and has been a part of the team for the last 10 years. Prior to working at Erlson, he has worked at Morrisons as a night manager, an engineering company making aircraft components and B&Q as a department manager but that’s not how he started his working life’s.

When he was younger, he remembers his Dad working down the mines saying, “Dad didn’t want me to follow in his footsteps and so when I left school he enrolled me in a painting and decorating course that I did for 3 years. I loved it.”

He very much likes to ‘keep his hand in’ with the DIY alongside his day job, helping out with family and friends. He’s even been known to do some decorating at Erlson’s headquarters too. 

Andrew is very happy here at Erlson because he enjoys his job and enjoys doing it well. He likes to think he is good at it and appreciates being left to get on with the work without being micromanaged. 

When the company gets a new product to manufacture, he really enjoys the period of training as he gets taught what to inspect for. 

A typical day for Andrew starts with a check on the night shift progress. He will talk to a supervisor to see if there are any urgent needs and action those first before prioritising the rest of his workload. 

He might be looking for things like damage or something missing, perhaps it has swarf damage or something like that. If he does find anything he will pull it out and get it checked out by an engineer who will decide what to do next. 

The main thing is that it meets the customers specification, so he has a keen eye for that and we strive to ensure that the customer doesn’t have to deal with any problems at their end. 

At home he is a rugby league fan and is proud of his two daughters, one of which is getting married soon. He likes to do the usual holidaying when he gets time and goes away to Cornwall every year.
